Caned seat and back chairs have been around since the 17th century. The beauty of hand chair caning and restoration in Wellington is a work of art as natural fibers are meticulously woven through the framework creating artistic patterns.
Tradition Furniture Restoration is pleased to include both hand caning and pre-woven caning as a part of our extensive menu of furniture services. No longer will you have to worry that your dining set is incomplete due to broken caned seats. In a short period of time they are replaced and ready to be sat upon. Along with furniture refinishing, your chairs can look like new again!
Caning Styles and Colors
Caning comes in a wide variety of patterns, natural buff color and lacquered and stained colors to match existing furniture:
- Basket Weaves. Using natural reed or cord, basket weave patterns are minimalist and quite beautiful.
- Circular Patterns. This is typically done on medallion back chairs, settees and love seats. The finished product is as delicate looking as a spider’s web!
- Herringbone Patterns. Herringbone patterns can vary in size of cane reed used and pattern spacing. Our craftsmen create caning masterpieces!
- Rushed Seats and Diamond Point. The fibers are strung side to side as looping configures various patterns. They are strong and durable.
